Workshop Aims:


Design and create a product from recycled plastic bags. See the recycled plastic bag product collection here.

KS1 Objectives:

  • Share Plastic Shed projects, emphasising the creative possibilities of plastic bottle lids, recycled plastic, community commitment and creative thinking.

  • Create a recycled plastic bag sheet and create a simple product with the support of a facilitator.

 

This supports the KS1 National Curriculum through Science (everyday materials and how they change), Geography (understanding waste and the environment), and Art & Design and Design & Technology (using materials creatively to design and make simple products), alongside developing speaking and listening skills.

 

KS2 Objectives:

  • Share Plastic Shed projects, emphasising the creative possibilities of plastic bottle lids, recycled plastic, community commitment and creative thinking.

  • Discover design possibilities with plastic waste materials.

  • Design and create a plastic product.

  • Reflect & discuss outcomes.

 

This supports the KS2 National Curriculum through Science (properties of materials), Geography (environmental impact and sustainability), and Art & Design and Design & Technology (designing, making, and reflecting on purposeful products), while encouraging problem-solving, discussion, and evaluation of their own designs and outcomes.

KS3 Objectives:

  • Share Plastic Shed projects, emphasising the creative possibilities of plastic bottle lids, recycled plastic, community commitment and creative thinking.

  • Explore the environmental impact of plastic waste and the importance of recycling.

  • Experiment with different techniques to create recycled plastic material.

  • Design and create a recycled plastic product.

  • Reflect on and evaluate their design process, material choices, and final outcomes.

 

This supports the KS3 National Curriculum through Science (materials and sustainability), Geography (environmental impact and waste), and Art & Design and Design & Technology (exploring creative processes, material experimentation, and product design), while encouraging problem-solving, evaluation, and creative thinking.

KS4 Objectives:

  • Share Plastic Shed projects, emphasising the creative possibilities of plastic bottle lids, recycled plastic, community commitment and creative thinking.

  • Investigate how recycled materials can be transformed into functional and creative products.

  • Develop and refine design ideas through experimentation with recycled plastics and making techniques.

  • Create a purposeful recycled plastic product.

  • Critically evaluate their work, considering functionality, aesthetics, sustainability, and design outcomes.

 

This supports KS4 learning through Art & Design, Design & Technology, and Science by exploring sustainable materials, product development, creative experimentation, and evaluation of outcomes, while developing practical making skills and understanding of environmental responsibility and circular design.

  • Introduction to Plastic Shed projects and how children can recycle plastic creatively.

  • Guided hands-on workshop

  • Each child makes and takes home a creation

  • Half Day Workshop  

    • from £230

  • Full Day Workshop

    • from £360

  • (Workshops can be combined or repeated) For example, 2 half-day workshops can be booked as a full day.

Duration:

  • 2 Hour workshop:

  • 15 - minute Presentation

  • 90 - minute workshop

  • 15 - minute Reflection & Questions

Location:

  • We can come to your school or chosen venue (Must be in Greater Manchester, have tables and access to electricity required)

  • Or we can host you at Plastic Shed (available from July 2026)

Safety and Supervision:

Due to the use of heated equipment (iron), a supervising adult must be present and actively involved during the workshop.

The workshop host will guide all activities; however, an additional adult is required to:

  • Assist with the supervised ironing process or Support children during making

20% of all bookings and sales directly support the running of Plastic Shed.
