Workshop Aims:

Discuss and redesign a school garden/playground space into a year-round pollinator-friendly green space with a focus on seasonal changes, plant identification and climate resilience. Concluding with each student creating a recycled plastic plant tag.

KS2 Objectives:

  • Identify why pollinators are important for maintaining biodiversity and what it means to be climate resilient through interactive activities.

  • Learn how we can adapt the school garden/playground space to support pollinators and the wider ecosystem with eco-friendly additions and adaptations.

  • Learn about plants that support pollinators throughout the year, their lifecycles and seasonal cycles.

  • Each student will individually redesign the school's garden/playground space.

  • Reflect on their designs and create a finalised collaborative garden as a group

  • Each student creates a plant tag from recycled plastic.

This supports the KS2 National Curriculum through Science (life cycles, seasonal change, ecosystems), Sustainability (climate awareness, seasonal adaptation, environmental responsibility and environmental impact and responsible use of materials), Geography (environmental change and sustainability), Design & Technology (design and evaluation), and cross-curricular links with Maths (planning and organising designs).
