Workshop Aims:

Learn how to identify different types of plastic, use a plastic shredder and heat press machine, and then collaborate to make a heat-pressed recycled plastic sheet from plastic bottle lids.

KS1 & KS2 Objectives:

  • A tour of Plastic Shed, sharing our previous projects.

  • Emphasising the creative possibilities of plastic bottle lids, recycled plastic, community commitment and creative thinking.

  • Discover design possibilities with plastic waste materials.

  • Design and create a recycled plastic sheet.

This workshop is adapted to different Key Stages to reflect the National Curriculum. The higher the Key Stage, the more detailed information we include about material properties and applications, as well as further evaluation and reflection.

This supports the KS1 National Curriculum through Science (everyday materials and plastics), Art & Design and Design & Technology (creative making and collaboration), and Sustainability (recycling and caring for the environment).

This supports the KS2 National Curriculum through Science (properties of materials), Art & Design and Design & Technology (designing, making, and evaluating products), and Geography (sustainability and environmental impact), while encouraging teamwork and reflection.

This supports the KS3 National Curriculum through Science (materials and sustainability), Design & Technology (creative processes and specialist tools), and Art & Design (experimental techniques and material exploration).
